The Boca Raton Museum of Art Changes Seasons in Stages This November

October 29, 2026

"That place that you don't have to go to, but you want to go to," is how Ena Heller described her goal for the Boca Raton Museum of Art in a September interview with TAPinto Boca Raton. She borrowed sociologist Ray Oldenburg's idea of a third place: home first, work second, and third the place where you meet friends and community.

For Boca Villas, the museum at 501 Plaza Real is a walk, not a drive. This fall is also the first season Heller has planned start to finish since she became director and CEO about a year and a half ago. Shows open and close on four separate dates between November 7 and December 6, so living close enough to stop in for an hour at a time matters more than usual.

Four Dates Between November 7 and December 6

The museum's calendar has shows coming and going on different weekends. Here is what is on view this fall and when each show starts and ends.

Exhibition On view What changes
Frédéric Bruly Bouabré: Selections from the 404 Art Collection May 20 to November 8, 2026 Last day is Sunday, November 8
Exploring Jess: Beat Generation Visionary April 22 to December 6, 2026 Closes Sunday, December 6
Drawing with Scissors: Collage from the Collection May 20, 2026 to January 18, 2027 On view all season
Tobi Kahn: Quest for the Essence November 7, 2026 to April 4, 2027 Opens Saturday, November 7
Spiritual Ecologies: Art, Nature, and Community November 7, 2026 to April 4, 2027 Opens Saturday, November 7
Between Detachment & Devotion: On the Paradoxes of War November 21, 2026 to May 16, 2027 Opens Saturday, November 21

Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8 are the only two days when Bouabré hangs alongside the two new fall shows. The third new show arrives November 21, which gives the museum five shows at once again until Jess leaves on Sunday, December 6. A single visit in early January would miss two of the six shows, and after January 18, when Drawing with Scissors closes, it would miss three.

Saturday, November 7: Two Openings With a Festival Next Door

The headline show is "Tobi Kahn: Quest for the Essence." TAPinto reported that it is the first career survey of the New York artist, whose work Heller has followed for 20 years. According to the museum, every work comes from the artist's own collection. These are pieces Kahn chose not to sell, and they still hang in his studio in Long Island City. The show spans 40 years of paintings, works on paper, sculptures and ritual objects, and it is anchored by two monumental Sky and Water installations. Heller curated it.

One piece is a recent addition to Boca Raton's own holdings. Kahn's ZAHRYZ v.4, Tzedek Box, a ridged blue acrylic-on-wood box from 2021, was a museum purchase in 2025. The museum describes it as a contemporary take on a Jewish ritual of writing down and keeping a record of righteous deeds.

Opening the same day is "Spiritual Ecologies: Art, Nature, and Community," a companion show of paintings, sculpture, photography and mixed media curated by chief curator Keffie Feldman. TAPinto reported that most of it comes from the museum's own collection, which Heller told the outlet Boca Raton has never gotten to know well enough.

Down the plaza that same afternoon, Tequila Fest takes over the Mizner Park Amphitheater at 590 Plaza Real. VIP entry runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and general admission from 5 to 8 p.m., according to the City of Boca Raton event calendar. The museum closes at 5 p.m. on Saturdays, the same hour general admission opens at the amphitheater. Visiting on opening day earlier in the afternoon avoids the festival crowd, and walking from Boca Villas takes the parking question out of the plan.

Families can start earlier. The museum's calendar lists Morning Makers on November 7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Sunday, November 8: A Last Look at Bouabré and an Afternoon With the Artist

Sunday is the last day to see the Bouabré selections from the 404 Art Collection, which have been up since May 20. It is also the day Kahn comes to the museum. "Art and Friendship: A Dialogue between Tobi Kahn and Douglas Dreishpoon" runs from 3 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adult members and $25 for adult non-members, and registration goes through the museum's event page.

The museum's own schedule makes a full Sunday possible:

  1. 9 to 10:30 a.m. Yoga at the Museum is on the calendar.
  2. 2 p.m. A free one-hour docent-led tour comes with general admission every day and needs no reservation, though the museum notes the schedule can change.
  3. 3 to 4 p.m. The Kahn and Dreishpoon conversation.
  4. Before 5 p.m. Your last chance to walk through the Bouabré galleries before they close for good.

That order puts the free tour right before the talk, so you hear the artist after a guide has already walked you through the building.

Saturday, November 21: The Third Show Opens

Two weeks later, "Between Detachment & Devotion: On the Paradoxes of War" opens and runs through May 16, 2027. It uses Ernest Hemingway's 1929 novel A Farewell to Arms as a framework, setting passages from the book beside works from the museum's collection. The museum presents it as part of the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It was curated by David Matteson, director of learning and engagement, and Keffie Feldman, with support in part from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The opening weekend has its own programs. A book giveaway runs on November 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a Pastel Painting Workshop is scheduled for November 21 from 1 to 4 p.m., and Renaissance Art Conversations meets November 22 from 3 to 4 p.m. For anyone who wants to read the novel first, the museum's Brushstrokes & Bookmarks series takes up A Farewell to Arms on Thursday, January 14, 2027, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

After that, the next date is Sunday, December 6, the last day for "Exploring Jess: Beat Generation Visionary."

Thursday Evenings Fit Between the Big Weekends

Spreading the season over several visits works because of the hours. The museum is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and is closed Monday and Tuesday. Heller told TAPinto that the Thursday hours are meant to let people come after work, not only on Saturdays.

Thursday, November 12 shows what a weeknight looks like. Brushstrokes & Bookmarks meets from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Looking with Literature from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and Art of Dance from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Midweek programs are also on the calendar, including Modern Dance on Wednesday, November 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. and Sound Healing on Wednesday, November 18 from 5 to 6 p.m. Music in the Museum is scheduled for Sunday, November 15 from 3 to 4 p.m. Prices and registration for these programs are listed on each event's page.

Here is what a visit costs:

  • Adults: $16
  • Seniors 65 and older: $12
  • High school students under 18 and children under 15: free
  • Members: free, and North American Reciprocal Museum card holders get member admission during regular hours
  • Museums for All: free with a SNAP EBT card shown at entry

If you plan to visit several times, the math is simple. Memberships start at $90 a year. Five adult admissions at $16 add up to $80. Add a non-member ticket to the November 8 talk, which costs $15 more than the member price, and the total passes $90. Visiting each of the four dates on the calendar this season, plus one Thursday evening, puts you right at that line.

TAPinto also reported that Heller is looking for sponsors to fund free evenings and wants, longer term, to move the museum's art school into a modern building nearby. Neither has a date yet. For now, the November 7 openings, the November 8 closing and the November 21 opening are the dates to plan around. Calendars can change, so confirm times on bocamuseum.org before you go.

Living within walking distance of Plaza Real changes how a season like this works for you, and the same is true of a home's value.
